Amazon boosts New York nonprofits with Ring safety donations, employee blood drive and digital-skills sponsorships

Amazon has announced an expansion of its civic and philanthropic activities in New York City, involving device donations, workforce partnerships, and employee-led initiatives aimed at enhancing safety, health, and digital access.

Commonpoint Queens reported on September 8, 2025, that Ring, a subsidiary of Amazon, donated over $90,000 in home security products and services. This donation includes 250 Ring Video Doorbells, 50 Ring Cameras, 50 Ring Chimes, and lifetime Ring Basic subscriptions. Additionally, $15,000 in funding was provided. 

The program is directed at eligible residents aged 60 and older in Northeast Queens through Older Adult Centers and Naturally Occurring Retirement Community (NORC) programs. Distribution and registration are available on a first-come, first-served basis through Commonpoint.

According to an internal announcement from Amazon, the company scheduled an employee-only blood drive for August 26, 2025, at its JFK27 Manhattan office. Organized by Project GiveBack and the ISV Team Culture in partnership with the New York Blood Center, the event aimed to address a regional summer shortage by recruiting 384 donors. Each donation could potentially help multiple patients. The New York Blood Center had declared a blood emergency in June 2025 due to sustained declines in donations.

Civic Hall has announced that Amazon became a founding sponsor of its Union Square hub by funding an “Amazon Classroom” dedicated to digital-skills workshops, career training, and civic-tech events. This partnership seeks to connect New York City training providers with jobseekers and entrepreneurs while expanding inclusive pathways into tech careers as programming scales across various neighborhoods.

CBS New York reported that hundreds of clients from the New York Common Pantry in East Harlem received toiletry kits through a collaboration involving Amazon and L’Oréal with support from Robin Hood. The aid was framed as timely relief for households facing cost pressures heading into winter. The report highlighted how nonprofit-corporate logistics partnerships effectively scale neighborhood distributions of essentials alongside ongoing food-security services.

Amazon’s U.S. Community Impact Report details more than $215,000 donated to Queens Public Library in 2023 for free educational programs, workforce services, and cultural events. This includes support tied to the celebration of Hip Hop’s 50th Anniversary. The disclosure places Queens funding within a broader national portfolio of grants and in-kind aid while documenting targeted cultural and education investments across the library system.

Amazon is a global technology and logistics company founded in 1994 with headquarters in Seattle. It operates e-commerce marketplaces along with logistics networks and the Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud platform. Company materials indicate a workforce of approximately 1.5 million worldwide across three segments: North America, International, and AWS.
