AMZ Prep has announced on its website that New York ranks among the top states for Amazon seller-supported job creation, with more than 176,000 positions.
According to Amazon’s 2024 Small Business Empowerment Report, the company’s marketplace has become a significant source of U.S. job creation. This growth is driven by third-party sellers utilizing Amazon’s infrastructure to reach customers. The report indicates that independent sellers employ workers across various sectors, including logistics, marketing, operations, and customer support. These businesses are becoming central to local and state economies nationwide, reshaping employment patterns in eCommerce.
Independent sellers on Amazon now employ over 2 million people across the United States. This figure represents an 11% increase from the previous year. The reported employment figures do not include indirect job creation through logistics, warehousing, and professional services, suggesting a greater overall economic impact than the reported totals.
Amazon states that it has created more jobs in the past decade than any other U.S.-based company and is currently the second-largest private employer in the country. The company employs over 1.5 million people worldwide across fulfillment centers, delivery networks, corporate offices, and technology hubs. This direct hiring complements the employment generated by independent sellers on its platform.
