Flags at New York State government buildings will be lowered to half-staff on Friday, August 22, in honor of retired New York State Police Sergeant Frederick W. Scheidt. The directive was issued by Governor Kathy Hochul following the passing of Sergeant Scheidt from an illness related to his work at the World Trade Center site after the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

“I am directing flags across New York State to be lowered in honor of retired New York State Police Sergeant Frederick W. Scheidt,” Governor Hochul said. “Sergeant Scheidt served New York with great distinction through challenges and times of peril, and today we send our deepest condolences to his loved ones as we honor his life and legacy.”

Sergeant Scheidt served with the New York State Police for three decades before retiring on October 14, 2009. His final assignment was with Troop G at SP Saratoga.

He is survived by his wife, Shannon, and son, Brandon. His daughter, Katie-Lynn N. Scheidt, predeceased him.
