Governor Kathy Hochul has announced her intention to nominate Dennis M. Walcott to the Commission on Ethics and Lobbying in Government. The nomination will be open for public comment for twenty-one business days, as outlined by the Independent Review Committee’s procedures. After this period, Walcott’s qualifications will be reviewed by the committee, which consists of deans from New York law schools.
“The Commission on Ethics and Lobbying in Government plays an essential role in our mission to promote integrity in government, regulate lobbying and increase transparency,” Governor Hochul said. “I am thrilled to nominate Dennis Walcott for the Committee’s review and look forward to continuing our work in building trust between New Yorkers and their elected officials.”
Walcott is currently President and CEO of the Queens Public Library. His previous roles include serving as state-appointed monitor of the East Ramapo School District, Chancellor of the New York City Department of Education, Deputy Mayor for Education and Community Development under the Bloomberg Administration, and President and CEO of the New York Urban League for over 12 years. Walcott is a lifelong resident of Queens and graduated from local public schools before earning degrees from the University of Bridgeport and Fordham University.
