Governor Kathy Hochul announced on March 10 that flags on all State government buildings will be flown at half-staff on Wednesday, March 11, in honor of former New York City Councilmember and political strategist Ronnie Eldridge.
The directive recognizes Eldridge’s contributions as a public servant and her impact on politics in New York. The gesture is intended to pay tribute to her legacy and influence within the state.
Hochul said, “I was proud to have known Ronnie Eldridge — a dedicated public servant, a fierce advocate for the voiceless, and a trailblazer for women in politics. I am forever grateful for her service and influence, and send my heartfelt condolences to those whose lives she touched. May her memory be a blessing.”
Eldridge served as a member of the New York City Council and was known for her advocacy work and commitment to public service. Her career included efforts to support underrepresented communities and advance women’s participation in politics.
The order to lower flags serves as an official mark of respect from the state government. Observers note that such gestures are reserved for individuals who have made significant contributions to public life.
