New York Governor Kathy Hochul responded to a recent legal decision regarding the state’s congestion pricing program. The governor stated that the policy has produced positive results in its first year, including less traffic congestion, faster travel times, improved street safety, and better air quality. She emphasized that these changes have also provided essential funding for upgrades to public transportation.
Hochul addressed challenges from the Trump administration against New York’s authority to implement congestion pricing. “I have been clear from day one: my administration will fight any unlawful effort by the Trump administration to attack the sovereignty of New York State with everything we’ve got. Today, we won again.”
She highlighted the significance of the judge’s ruling in favor of New York’s policy. “The judge’s decision is clear: Donald Trump’s unlawful attempts to trample on the self-governance of his home state have failed spectacularly. Congestion pricing is legal, it works, and it is here to stay. The cameras are staying on.”
The court’s decision supports New York’s efforts to maintain and continue its congestion pricing initiative.
