Marist University Athletics Department announced on March 25 its first-ever Hall of Fame class, which will honor the achievements and contributions of Red Fox student-athletes, coaches, teams, and supporters.

The new Hall of Fame aims to recognize those who have had a significant impact on Marist athletics through outstanding performance or leadership. The induction ceremony is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 23, 2026 at the McCann Center during Homecoming & Reunion Weekend. Inductees will receive plaques and become part of an annual tradition celebrating Marist’s top athletic performers.

The six inductees are Terrence Fede ’13, Rachele Fitz ’10, Jack Gartland, Brian Giorgis, Rik Smits ’88, and Chris Tracz ’05. The group includes a former NFL player (Fede), an NBA all-star (Smits), two decorated MAAC student-athletes (Fitz and Tracz), a championship-winning coach (Giorgis), and a longtime Trustee who shaped the future of Red Fox athletics (Gartland).

“I think we have an incredible group of inductees for our inaugural class,” Marist Director of Athletics Tim Murray said. “I can’t thank our nominating and selection committees enough for the terrific job that they did, both in their preparation and our detailed conversations. There were so many deserving nominees, and while unfortunately we can’t induct everyone at once, we are looking forward to the continued recognition of our outstanding representatives of Marist University in the years to come.”

Each inductee has made unique contributions: Fede was Marist’s first NFL Draft pick; Fitz is women’s basketball’s all-time leader in points and rebounds; Gartland played key roles as Trustee supporting campus development; Giorgis led women’s basketball to record championships; Smits became Marist’s first NBA Draft selection; Tracz set multiple baseball records as both player and coach.

The Red Foxes hold records as the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference’s all-time leader in conference championships and Commissioner’s Cups. According to Marist Athletics Department statements from March 12 included in this announcement, student-athletes continue to excel academically while reaching high levels in their sports.
