Marist College is set to begin its spring lecture series on January 28, featuring a range of speakers from the fields of global affairs, media, and the arts. The series will open with actor, comedian, and author Aasif Mandvi in an event titled “An Evening with Aasif Mandvi” at Fusco Recital Hall. Mandvi will discuss his experiences across theatre, television, film, and memoir.

Following this event, Dr. Fiona Hill—a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution and Chancellor of Durham University—will speak on February 2 in Nelly Goletti Theatre. Her talk will be moderated by Marist President Kevin Weinman and Dr. Juris Pupcenoks. Dr. Hill is recognized for her expertise on Russia, Europe, and U.S. foreign policy.

On February 4, poet and author Ebony Stewart will deliver the First-Year Seminar Common Read Lecture at McCann Center Arena. Attendance is required for students enrolled in First Year Seminar but is also open to all faculty, staff, and students.

The series continues on February 10 with Sean Carroll from Johns Hopkins University presenting “Find Yourself in a Large Universe” at O’Shea Lecture Hall as part of his recognition as the recipient of the Apostolos P. Stefanopoulos Prize in Philosophy.

A live taping of “The Back Room with Andy Ostroy,” featuring political commentator S.E. Cupp as a guest, is scheduled for March 23 at O’Shea Lecture Hall.

Dr. Jacqueline Reich, Professor of Film, Television, and Media Arts at Marist College said: “This year, we worked to curate a lecture series that is timely and engaging for faculty, staff, students, and the broader community.” She added: “After welcoming renowned neurosurgeon and author Dr. Theodore Schwartz last semester, this spring’s lineup shifts focus to the creative industries, political science, philosophy, and poetry.”

The organization of this lecture series involves collaboration among various campus departments including Student Affairs; Special Events; The Media Center; Information Technology; Campus Safety; First-Year Seminars; Honors College; Deans’ Circle; Student Government Association; as well as the Offices of the President and Provost.

More information about upcoming events can be found on Marist College’s website.
