Each semester, Marist College’s Communications and Marketing department employs nearly a dozen student workers who contribute to the college’s outreach efforts. These students participate in writing for Inside Marist, managing social media accounts, and updating the website.
The department recognizes the value these students bring through their ideas and content. “I love working with the Communications and Marketing department because it allows me to gain practical experience in professional writing and editing,” said Lauretta Russell ’25, an English major with three minors in women’s gender and sexuality studies, global studies, and psychology. “I can use my creativity to cultivate articles that showcase the diverse and exciting experiences that Marist students are having daily.”
Sierra Fisher ‘26, a business administration major concentrating in marketing with a minor in sports communications, commented on her experience: “I enjoy working for the Office of Communications and Marketing because of the incredible opportunities I have been able to be involved in. I feel respected and not seen as just a student worker, but a valued member of the Marist marketing team.”
Karissa Lattin ’25, who is studying fashion merchandising with a product development concentration, said: “Working for in the Communications and Marketing department for my last year here at Marist has been an incredible opportunity. I learned so many valuable skills about photography, and I got to help showcase a variety of different events happening all around campus!”
Emma Kiesbye ’26, a digital media major focusing on animation, added: “I feel very fortunate to be working in the creative services field within the department. I have grown a lot here by being able to harness and improve my graphic design and animation skills. It’s a very supportive environment within the office and I’m happy to be a part of it!“
Valincia Hill ’26 described her time with MARCOM as follows: “It’s an incredible hands-on experience that has been very rewarding to say the least, I’ve been able to gain experience in social media marketing, and I learn so much with mentors who are extremely patient and flexible. You get the opportunity to learn about the behind the scenes of Marist University, which makes you appreciate not only the institution but the people who keep the ball running.”
