As the semester draws to a close at Marist College, students have participated in a range of academic, cultural, and community events that highlight campus life.
On November 21, the Center for Career Services held an information session with Goldman Sachs Ayco. Sheri Lyons, Head of Talent Strategy at Goldman Sachs Ayco, offered advice on job applications and financial planning relevant to students in various fields. She discussed 17 career paths, internship and full-time job timelines, and described the firm’s Community TeamWorks program that connects employees with local nonprofits. Three student interns shared their experiences; among them was Kaitlyn DiLonardo ’26 who described her internship as transformative.
In another event aimed at promoting cultural understanding, Intermediate French I hosted “A Night in Paris” in Fontaine Hall’s Henry Hudson Room. The evening featured activities such as trivia about French language influence on English vocabulary, hands-on crafts like French braiding and bracelet-making, and sampling of French snacks. The event was open to all students regardless of their knowledge of French.
The Center for Multicultural Affairs organized the 2025 Cultural Art & Fashion Show to celebrate global cultures through art and fashion. Student media assistants Camila Guasque ’28 and Rebekah George ’26 were involved in organizing the show which included both digital and traditional art by students alongside garments from around the world lent by community members. Professor Sonia Roy contributed clothing collected during her travels. Volunteer students modeled outfits representing diverse backgrounds while Gourmet Dining provided dishes from countries including Uruguay, Cuba, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Pakistan, and Italy.
Student Activities also arranged a no-sew blanket-making workshop led by student programming manager Hannah Epstein ’26. Participants selected from different color combinations to create knot-edged blankets suitable for use during colder weather on campus. “I’ve been making these blankets for three years and even gift them to friends and family,” said Hannah Epstein.
Marist’s 9th annual Student World Affairs Conference (SWAC) took place before Thanksgiving with support from the Mid-Hudson Valley World Affairs Council and the School of Liberal Arts. The conference featured seven panels with presentations from 27 undergraduate students on global issues as well as a keynote address by Dr. Omar Encarnación discussing his research on gay rights in Latin America.
