Marist University’s School of Communication and the Arts announced on March 18 that it will hold its first SCA Showcase for alumni on Friday, April 10. The event is designed to celebrate student work and foster connections between current students, faculty, and graduates.
The showcase aims to highlight the breadth of disciplines within the school, which includes art and digital media, communication, fashion, film, television and media arts, as well as music. Experiential learning programs such as the Center for Social Media, Silver Needle Runway, MPorium, Center Field, and North Road Communications are also featured.
The main Student Showcase will take place from 2 to 4 p.m., with curated presentations in Steel Plant Studios Winter Garden and Lowell Thomas Communication Center. These sessions will display a range of creative projects including design work, media productions, performances, and interactive demonstrations. Dr. Maurice Hall, Dean of the School of Communication and the Arts said: “We want to showcase that, in our school, learning happens through doing. On stages and sets, in studios and labs, through publications and productions, in classrooms designed for experimentation, and in partnerships that connect Marist to the wider world.”
Jennifer Finn, Acting Associate Dean of SCA said: “By showcasing the spectrum of talent in our students, it reinforces that there are many paths to success. It’s so important to celebrate the work our students are producing and demonstrate just how dynamic our school really is.”
Alumni engagement is a key part of the day’s agenda. Graduates can attend Open Advisory Board Meetings at 11 a.m., where they will hear about strategic plans for SCA. There is also an Alumni–Student Networking Lunch aimed at fostering professional relationships between current students and alumni working across communication fields.
The morning begins with a panel discussion titled “Careers in Motion: SCA Alumni on Evolving Industries,” moderated by Dean Hall. The event has been organized by Noelle Stamm ’26 and Jami Rusczyk ’26—student representatives who have worked closely with Dean Hall. Stamm said: “We all shared a desire to give more exposure to the unique work coming out of the School of Communication and the Arts.” Rusczyk added: “Ultimately, our goal was to bring the school and broader community together through a celebration of student achievement and creativity while reflecting the diversity and interdisciplinary nature of SCA.”
Rusczyk also emphasized opportunities for mentorships or internships during alumni interactions: “Students can connect with industry professionals in their fields of interest; relationships that could lead to mentorships, internships or even career opportunities which have been our top priority from the start.” Stamm noted: “At the same time, the showcase allows alumni to see how the School of Communication and the Arts continues to evolve.”
The event is open not only to alumni but also prospective students as well as members of Marist’s broader community.
