Marist University will hold several events in November to honor veterans and recognize their service. The activities are scheduled as part of Veterans Week and continue throughout the month.
From November 4 through November 11, campus buildings will be lit with green lights at night as part of Operation Green Light, a national initiative to show support for veterans. The green illumination is intended to express gratitude for their service.
On Saturday, November 8, the fourth annual Anthony’s Walk will take place at 10 a.m. outside the Steel Plant. This event is a 22-minute walk around campus dedicated to supporting local veterans and is named after a Marine Corps veteran who died in Poughkeepsie in 2020. The walk is free, open to the public, and does not require registration. It is co-sponsored by Marist University and Hudson River Housing.
A flag-raising ceremony will be held on Veterans Day, November 11, at 11 a.m. at the Class of 1968 Flagpole and Veterans Memorial across from Donnelly Hall. The event includes welcome remarks and a performance by the Marist Singers, followed by a coffee reception in the Donnelly atrium where a military display honoring veterans will also be available.
Marist Hockey will recognize veterans during its game against Montclair State on Saturday, November 8 at McCann Ice Arena. Veterans attending the game will be honored during the event.
Additionally, Marist’s annual Veterans Appreciation Basketball Game is scheduled for Friday, November 21 when the men’s basketball team plays Army at McCann Arena. Veterans receive free admission and special presentations will be made in their honor; tickets for non-veterans can be purchased online.
