More than $300 million in state funding has been allocated to support health care transformation projects across New York, according to an announcement from Governor Kathy Hochul. The funds, distributed through the Statewide Health Care Facility Transformation Program IV and V, will be used for 22 projects focused on improving health information technology, expanding electronic medical records, strengthening cybersecurity measures, and increasing telehealth services.

Governor Hochul said, “By modernizing our hospitals’ IT infrastructure and protecting patients’ information, we’re strengthening the foundation of health care in New York State. These investments will help ensure that hospitals have the tools they need to safeguard patient data, expand telehealth services and deliver a healthier future for all New Yorkers.”

Dr. James McDonald, Commissioner of the New York State Department of Health, added, “With these investments, we are focused on developing safe, reliable and connected patient-centered care. By expanding data capabilities and improving cybersecurity defenses, we’re enhancing clinical decision making across the state’s health care network.”

The funding will prioritize projects that support financially distressed providers, modernize critical health information technology infrastructure, strengthen cybersecurity and patient information security, and expand telehealth services. Hospitals in every region of the state are among the awardees.

A comprehensive list of recipients and project details is available online. The funds are administered by both the New York State Department of Health and the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York (DASNY).

This latest investment builds upon previous efforts by Governor Hochul’s administration to improve access to quality health care throughout New York. Since 2016, more than $4.7 billion in capital funding has been directed toward health care statewide as part of a long-term commitment to strengthen delivery systems.

In addition to these new awards, recent allocations were made for 55 additional projects under Statewide IV as well as further initiatives through the Safety Net Transformation Program.

New York recently implemented new cybersecurity regulations for hospitals aimed at protecting critical systems and enhancing resilience against cyber threats.
