Kris Basmagy, President and Owner of DashWave Delivery, expressed concerns over the proposed Delivery Protection Act, stating that it mischaracterizes Amazon’s Delivery Service Partners (DSPs) and could threaten small business jobs throughout New York City. Basmagy made these remarks in a LinkedIn post.
“Amazon DSPs are real local businesses employing real people and strengthening the communities we serve,” said Basmagy, President & Owner, according to LinkedIn. “The proposed Delivery Protection Act is based on a misunderstanding of who we are and what we do: This bill would eliminate, not safeguard, good jobs across NYC. Let’s ensure legislation is informed by the reality on the ground, not misconceptions that threaten local jobs and community impact.”
According to filings before the New York City Council and reports from amNewYork, the proposed legislation would introduce new mandates on Amazon’s DSP model. These mandates are expected to increase operational costs for small DSP businesses. amNewYork highlights apprehensions that the legislation advanced without significant input from affected operators.
Testimony submitted to the New York City Council indicates that DSP owners warn the bill may lead to reduced route capacity, workforce reductions, or even force some operators to shut down. Most Amazon packages in New York City are delivered through DSPs, suggesting potential disruptions could impact citywide service. Customer advocates argue that any resulting delays might elevate consumer costs.
Amazon’s U.S. investment report outlines the company’s contributions of billions to local economies, including job creation, infrastructure spending, and partnerships with small businesses in New York. An analysis by Oxford Economics finds that Amazon’s national network generates substantial economic activity in nearby communities. Both sources emphasize Amazon’s role in supporting employment across various regions.
Basmagy’s LinkedIn profile describes him as an entrepreneur based in the New York City metropolitan area.
