State landmarks across New York will be illuminated in blue, white, and red to mark Dominican Independence Day, following a directive from Governor Kathy Hochul. The move aims to honor the contributions of Dominican-Americans throughout the state.

“As Governor, I am honored to represent the Dominican diaspora — the largest immigrant community in New York City and where a million Dominican-Americans live across our state,” said Governor Hochul. “The Dominican community has a strong cultural, economic and social impact on the fabric of New York, and we are proud to celebrate their history, strength and resilience on this independence day. I am committed to uplifting Dominican New Yorkers and amplifying Dominican art and culture for generations to come.”

Governor Hochul visited the Dominican Republic in November 2025 for her first official trip there. During her visit, she met with leaders from both regions to discuss areas such as climate resilience, infrastructure development, disaster response, and education. The discussions were aimed at building cooperation that would benefit both Dominicans living in New York and those in the Dominican Republic.

Fifteen landmarks will display the colors of the Dominican flag for Independence Day. These include One World Trade Center, Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge, Kosciuszko Bridge, H. Carl McCall SUNY Building, State Education Building, Alfred E. Smith State Office Building, Empire State Plaza, State Fairgrounds Main Gate & Expo Center, Franklin D. Roosevelt Mid-Hudson Bridge, Grand Central Terminal Pershing Square Viaduct, Albany International Airport Gateway, MTA LIRR East End Gateway at Penn Station, Fairport Lift Bridge over the Erie Canal, Moynihan Train Hall, and Roosevelt Island Lighthouse.
