Pace University announced on Apr. 9 that Lester Holt, award-winning journalist and anchor of Dateline NBC, will deliver the keynote address at its 2026 Commencement and receive an honorary doctorate.

The announcement highlights a diverse group of leaders from law, health care, media, and business who will serve as commencement speakers and honorary degree recipients. The event is scheduled for May 20–21 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Queens.

Joining Holt are Hon. Francesca E. Connolly ’82, associate justice of the Appellate Division of the New York State Supreme Court; Dr. Mitchell Katz, president and CEO of NYC Health + Hospitals; Judith M. Watson ’94, CEO of Westchester Community Health Center; Emmy Award-winning journalist Pedro Rivera ’12; and Peter Muller, founder and CEO of PDT Partners. Each speaker will receive an honorary degree during the ceremonies.

“This year’s Commencement speakers are leaders and changemakers across industries,” said Pace University President Marvin Krislov. “We are proud to celebrate the Class of 2026 with leaders who reflect the spirit of Opportunitas and inspire our graduates to lead with purpose and make a meaningful impact in the world.”

The university also announced Cedric Bobo as this year’s Opportunitas in Action Award recipient for his work with Project Destined, a nonprofit focused on financial literacy for underserved youth.

Each speaker brings extensive experience: Justice Connolly is recognized for her service on New York’s busiest appellate court; Dr. Katz has expanded health care access across New York City; Rivera is known for his journalism covering major national stories; Muller leads a global investment firm while pursuing music philanthropy; Watson has led community health initiatives for over three decades.

Founded in 1906, Pace University serves more than 13,600 students through various academic programs across its campuses.
