Staff members at Pace University have opportunities to connect with colleagues and participate in university governance through the Westchester Staff Council (WSC) and New York Staff Council (NYSC). These councils provide platforms for staff to engage with senior administration and discuss issues affecting their work environment.

Membership is open to all staff, though only full-time staff can vote. The councils meet monthly from September through May, sometimes holding joint sessions. At the end of each academic year, they organize a community picnic aimed at building relationships among staff.

Those interested in deeper involvement can join committees such as Benefits, Faculty, or Safety Committees. These groups allow staff to represent their peers on specific topics.

Each council’s Executive Committee includes a Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson or Co-Chairpersons, Secretary, and Treasurer. Members are elected by voting staff for one-year terms and may serve up to four consecutive terms in any position. Co-chairs advocate for staff interests during Board of Trustees’ Staff Affairs Committee meetings held twice a year.

An Executive Sponsor from the Operations Committee works with the councils to address concerns and is currently collaborating on drafting a new charter. This document aims to clarify how the councils contribute to university governance.

The co-chairs also gain experience interacting with board members and senior leaders, presenting to committees, and representing their colleagues throughout the year.

For more information about participation or upcoming events, staff are encouraged to visit the NY Staff Council or Westchester Staff Council websites.
