Pace University has opened nominations for its 2026 Commencement speaker and the Opportunitas in Action Award. The university is seeking suggestions from the community for individuals who can deliver the keynote address or be honored at the ceremony.

Each year, Pace University awards honorary doctorates to leaders who reflect its values and mission. Honorees may deliver a speech at the main event, address a specific school or college, or simply be recognized without speaking. The selection process aims to identify individuals with inspiring stories that align with Pace’s commitment to creating opportunities and making a positive impact.

The nomination review will be conducted by the Commencement Speaker Advisory Committee, co-chaired by Jeff Barnett, PhD, Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean for Students, and Joe Sgammato, Director of Executive Communications. The committee includes representatives from students, staff, and faculty.

The deadline to submit nominations for commencement speakers and honorary degree recipients is Friday, October 17, 2025.

In addition to speaker nominations, Pace University is also accepting submissions for the Opportunitas in Action Award. This honor is given by the university president to an individual or organization demonstrating innovative thinking and significant contributions to communities through service or advocacy. Eligible nominees include alumni, employees, current students, friends of Pace University as well as organizations associated with the university. Nominees must be able to attend the commencement ceremony where they would receive their award.

Nominations for this award are due by Wednesday, November 12, 2025.

According to information on Pace University’s website (https://www.pace.edu/commencement), both initiatives aim to highlight those who embody the spirit of “Opportunitas”—the idea of creating opportunity—and celebrate their achievements during one of the institution’s most significant annual events.
