The New York State Department of Public Service has announced that the Office of Renewable Energy Siting and Electric Transmission (ORES) will conduct an in-person public comment hearing regarding the proposed Fort Edward Solar NY, LLC project. The solar facility, which is planned to have a capacity of 100 megawatts, would be located in the Town of Fort Edward, Washington County.
According to ORES, the application for this project was filed on August 22, 2024. A notice confirming the application’s completeness was issued on May 27, 2025. Draft permit conditions were published by ORES on July 28, 2025. The public hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at Durkeetown Church in Fort Edward. It will begin at 6:00 p.m. All interested parties—including individuals, organizations, corporations, or government agencies—are invited to attend and provide comments on both the application and draft permit conditions.
During the hearing, oral comments may be limited to three minutes per person to allow all attendees a chance to speak. The session will be transcribed as part of the administrative record. Written comments are also being accepted and must be submitted by Friday, October 3, 2025. Those wishing to submit written feedback are encouraged to use the Department of Public Service’s Document and Matter Management system accessible through https://dps.ny.gov/ores under Project Permit Application Number 23-03023.
Written comments can also be sent via email to [email protected] or mailed directly to ORES at Empire State Plaza in Albany. Both oral and written comments will be given equal consideration if received by the deadline.
The location for the hearing is accessible for persons with mobility impairments. Physical copies are also available for public inspection at both the Town of Fort Edward Municipal Office and Fort Edward Free Library.
“All persons, organizations, corporations, or government agencies who may be affected by the facility are invited to attend the hearing and comment on the application and the draft permit conditions.” According to ORES guidelines: “Lengthy comments will not be accepted and instead should be submitted in writing.”
“Equal weight will be given to both oral and written comments,” states ORES.
