The New York State Public Service Commission has scheduled a virtual public statement hearing for December 3, 2025, to discuss an application from PSEG Long Island LLC, acting for the Long Island Power Authority (LIPA). The application seeks a Certificate of Environmental Compatibility and Public Need under Article VII of the Public Service Law.
If approved, the certificate would allow LIPA to build, operate, and maintain the Syosset to Oakwood Project. This project includes installing a new 2.8-mile underground electric transmission line between existing facilities in Oyster Bay, Nassau County (Woodbury Tap), and Huntington, Suffolk County (Oakwood Substation). The proposal also involves new riser and transmission poles at Woodbury Tap and additional facilities at Oakwood Substation north of its current site. Modifications are planned for parts of two existing lines between these locations.
According to New York State law, the Commission can accept or reject LIPA’s proposal fully or partially or make changes. In making its decision, it will consider feedback from both participating parties and members of the public.
A virtual hearing before an Administrative Law Judge is set for Wednesday, December 3, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. Interested individuals can access the meeting online via meetny-gov.webex.com using access code 2823 581 5171 and password Dec3-5pm.
